Over the last 10 years, I have been working on my music - it has never left me. Despite being a solo mom, in the depths of some very difficult days, I managed to hold hands with music. During nap times, late at night, on school runs, scribbling lyrics on crumpled receipts…music has been my constant companion. Thanks to the power of play, I have managed to find my way, help my family through their grief, and speak out, hopefully helping others by way of crushing the stigma surrounding Mental Illness.
I had the great fortune of working with my former producer David Odlum, known for winning a Grammy for his work on Tinariwen’s Tassili album. We exchanged ideas via Dropbox (as he works out of a studio in France). Thanks to fast internet and the generosity, not to mention talent of musicians in Ireland (Gemma Hayes), Australia (Mark Stanley), Vancouver (Jonathan Anderson, Brian Chan) and Montreal (Fred Bouchard, Claus Frostell, Phillip Hornsey, Mishka Stein), I was able to continue creating songs.
Finishing this album is a true labour of love to me, as it required such self-compassion to be patient enough with myself...to have the belief in myself to persevere.
By pre-ordering this album that I have titled ‘Watching Pretend’, you will not only be supporting my art, but my purpose and mission to help everyone to ‘Be Well’.
